Perinatal Services

These services encompass and support the many changes during Childbearing Year for Prenatal, Birth, & Postpartum.

Stacy Siler Wooster maintains credentials as a licensed massage therapist, yoga instructor, birth doula, labor comfort specialist and infant massage instructor.  She grounds her massage and yoga therapy practice in the basic principles of movement and embodied anatomy.  She has trained in the medical field and holistic health, specializing in perinatal care.  Her experience with maternity stems from her passion to nourish motherhood, the birthing process and early parenthood development.  Currently she partners with the Good Earth School, the Sassy Pea Market, and Yoga Yoga.  Her work has been featured in the media, both on television and in print.

Stacy offers these services in maternity care:

  • Maternal Massage & Perinatal Yoga Therapy
  • Birth Doula Services
  • Massage & Yoga for Birth and Infant Massage Classes
  • Maternal Massage Therapy

Massage or touch therapy reduces stress and alleviates common discomforts of pregnancy and postpardum.  It is recommended that you receive massage at least once per month during the pregnancy.  You may also get a massage during early labor or within 24 hours of birth unless there are specific contraindications noted by your health care provider.

Touch holds (which your partner can learn) are most effective during the active phase of labor and workshops offered are listed below under "Labor Massage Classes."

For pricing, please see Massage Therapy page.  Discounts on massage when combined with doula and yoga packages.

  • Perinatal Yoga Therapy

Yoga therapy allows the expectant and/or postpartum mom to discover truths in her own embodiment.  Through individualized attention, one can find the best alignment through which the body can move and relieve common discomforts of pregnancy and prepare for labor.  Breath, movement, vocalization, visualization will be combined throughout the session.  For postpartum women, sessions address bodily changes that occur during birth and the first few months after birth.  Each session allows for discussion of the mother's needs and discoveries and may include exercises to practice at home.

    75 minute session~ $ 75

    90 minute session~ $ 90

You may also package yoga with massage, doula services or workshops.

Prenatal public classes are available M @ 7:30pm, W @ 6:00pm, and Th @ 6:00pm through Yoga Yoga.  Stacy is also able to adapt any Hatha class to pregnancy and hosts classes at the Sassy Pea Market~ Postnatal Yoga on Tu @ 10am / Hatha on Tu @ 4pm and Th @ 9am.

For more details on Stacy's yoga schedule, see the Yoga page.

  • Birth Doula Services

"If a doula were a drug, it would be unethical not to use it."  John Kennell, MS

A birth doula provides many types of support for the laboring woman and her birth partner~ emotional, physical and informed choice.  It has been proven that women who have a doula attending their birth report greater satisfaction with their birth experience, less pain and anxiety, reduced caesarian rates, and better neonatal outcomes.

Stacy acts as a massage doula and labor comfort specialist to offer the laboring woman consistent, constant support throughout the birthing process.

She will currently take clients who are expected to deliver in late summer/ early fall of 2010.

  • Partner Yoga & Labor Massage for Birth & Delivery

This workshop walks the mother and the partner through simple techniques that can lower stress and the perception of pain during the labor and childbirth.

Touch comforts a laboring woman and can be an effective tool used by the birth partner to buffer anxiety and pain during each contraction.  For the past 30 years, researchers have known that "the presence and involvement of partners who touch the women during labor have been significantly correlated with less need for drugs, shorter labor, fewer perinatal problems and more optimal maternal interactions" (Sosa 1980).

Not only is there reduced time in labor and less need for medication, research shows that moms who receive supportive companionship make more eye contact with their baby, talk to the baby and touch their babies more.

Massage & Yoga for Birth & Delivery Workshops provide positive tools that can aid the mother, birth partner and baby through the birthing process.  I assist couples with their birth plans and incorporating yoga and massage as a tool for pain management during labor.  This information is useful whether or not a woman chooses to have pain medication during birth, as pain medication is not guaranteed to completely diminish the amount of sensation a woman experiences.  Knowledge gained is invaluable.

The next class will be available in July 2010.  The workshop price is $85 per couple, is scheduled for a two hour time frame, and includes light snacks and printed materials.

If the couple would like to review, they will receive a discounted price of $70 for the second workshop (approximately 20% discount).

Individual sessions may be scheduled by appointment.  The cost is $75 per hour of instruction.  It is recommended that the couple schedule at least 90 minutes to 2 hours to understand and practice the techniques.  This also allows for time to incorporate the information into the couple's birth plan.  If the session is not in Stacy's home studio or the studio at the Sassy Pea, outcall fee applies ($30).

  • Family bonding through infant massage

Infant massage can assist parents in the process of lifelong bonding with their child, as well as aid their children in sleeping better or with common conditions like colic, digestive issues, congestion etc.

Next workshop will be scheduled in July 2010.  Price is $85 per family, is scheduled for a 90 minute time frame, and includes light snacks and printed materials.  Extended family members are welcome to attend with the parents, at the parents' invitation.

If the parents would like to review, they will receive a discounted price of $70 for the second workshop (approximately 20% discount).

Individual sessions may be scheduled by appointment.  Extended family may attend at the discretion of the parents.  The cost is $75 per hour of instruction.  If not in Stacy's home studio or the studio at Sassy Pea, outcall fee applies ($30).
